Marion County has two more COVID-19 deaths; five reported in region

The Marion County Health Department is reporting two more COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday.   Two more deaths were reported in Fayette County and one in Wayne County.

Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says those who passed away were a male in his 70s and a male in his 80s.  Both died at the hospital and were not long term care residents.    The county has now had 15 COVID-related deaths.

In addition to the two deaths, the Marion County Health Department is reporting 23 new positive cases.  They ranged in age from four in their 20s to a female in her 80s.   All are reported doing well in isolation.  Of the new cases, 11 are community spread,12 are household/close contacts, and one is a long term care resident.

Marion County now has 154 active cases, including nine in the hospital of which two are on ventilators.  696 have recovered, including 31 who were released from isolation on Tuesday.

The Clinton County Health Department is reporting 27 new positive cases.  There are 242 currently on home isolation and eight who are hospitalized.  The Centralia Correctional Center now has 40 inmates and 10 staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 during the current outbreak.

The Fayette County Health Department is reporting two new deaths from a congregate-care facility including a male in his 70s and a female in her 80s.  The department also reported five new cases and currently has 94 active cases.

Jefferson County is reporting ten new positive cases ranging in age from a female under 13 to a female in her 90s who is hospitalized.  There are now 91 active cases in isolation.

Clay County is reporting four new positive cases, two through community spread and two from unknown exposures.  They range in age from 30s to 80s.   All are recovering in their homes.

The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting the 12th COVID-19 related death in Wayne County, a male in his 70s.  The Wayne County Health Department is also reporting three new cases in males in their 70s and 90s.  There are now 81 active cases and four who are hospitalized.
