Daily death toll from COVID-19 hits highest number since mid-June

The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting the highest daily COVID-19 death toll since mid-June.

Another 69 people lost their battle with the coronavirus, bringing the total number of patients who have died in Illinois to over 93-hundred.

State Public Health Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike says test positivity rates and hospital admissions are rising across the state as well.

“While you may be tired of hearing it, the virus is not tired. So I’ll continue to say it, wear a mask, wash your hands, watch your distance and also get your flu shot.”

Another 4,342 positive cases of COVID-19 were also reported on Wednesday, also close to a daily high.

The seven day statewide positivity rate is up to 5.7-percent with another 66,791 test results added to Wednesday’s calculation.

The Southern Illinois Region had its positivity rate for the week ending October 18th jump up to 8.9-percent.   The Marion County rate jumped nine-tenths of a percent to an even six percent.  The Metro East Region jumped two-tenths of a percent to 7.6-percent.   The East Central Illinois rate dipped a tenth of a percent to 7.5-percent.
