Marion County records 58 new COVID-19 cases

The Marion County Health Department reported 58 new cases of the COVID-19 virus over the weekend and on Monday.

Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says four of the new cases were in school-age children and contact tracing is still on-going with those cases.  None of the new cases were in long term care residents.    Of the 58 cases, 15 were community spread and 43 are from household or close contacts.  They ranged from one infant boy under nine months, five teens to a female in her 90s.

There are now 214 active cases in Marion County.  Eight are in the hospital and 206 are on home isolation.  Two of those hospitalized were on ventilators.  48 were released from isolation and were listed as recovered over the past three days, bringing the total number recovered to 763.

The Clinton County Health Department reported 79 new cases.  259 remain on home isolation and 13 are hospitalized.

The Jefferson County Health Department recorded 20 new cases over the weekend in addition to the one death.   Positives ranged from a male and female under 13, three teens, to a female in her 80s.  There was one positive case in a long term care resident in her 70s.  There are now 108 active cases in isolation.  The Jefferson County Health Department confirmed their 42 death over the weekend, a female in her 80s.

The Washington County Health Department reported 11 new confirmed cases ranging in age from two males in their 20s to two males in their 60s.   There are now 32 active cases and no one hospitalized.  The department also confirmed one-weekend death.

The Fayette County Health Department has 16 new confirmed cases over the weekend and Monday, including one case at a congregate-care facility.  There are now 73 active cases.  The health department is confirming two-weekend deaths, one related to a congregate facility outbreak.

The Clay County Health Department is reporting five new cases ranging in age from their 20s to 60s.

The Wayne County Health Department has 16 new cases on Monday ranging in age from a female teen to a male in his 90s.  100 people are currently in isolation and one is currently hospitalized.

The Southern Illinois Region seven day positivity rate is up a tenth of a percent to 8.8-percent.  The Marion County rate is down a tenth of a percent to 8-percent.   The Metro-East positivity rate is up another two-tenths of a percent to 8.4-percent.  The East Central Illinois Region has seen its positivity rate increase another two-tenths of a percent to 7.8-percent.
