The Illinois State Police is visiting businesses violating COVID-19 safety restrictions.

Troopers first give out verbal and then written warnings to violators, but Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly says they may have to result to a misdemeanor citation.

“It is where the emergency rule requirements for masking and social distancing have been outright and opening violated by the wait staff, cooks, business owners, and others refusing to respect or observe these basic safety measures.”

Citations have been issued in five Illinois counties so far.  Kelly stresses they will not be arresting people for not following the rules.
