The Mayor of Wamac says the Centralia Children’s Halloween Parade will go on after all.

Butch Mathis made the announcement about five hours after the Centralia Moose Lodge had canceled the parade at the direction of their International Organization due to COVID-19 concerns.

Mathis says the parade will be held as scheduled Saturday morning at Evers Field.

“I felt I needed to stand up on this issue and a bunch of other folks in the community, including the Centralia City Manager and City of Centralia Mayor Herb Williams, have agreed to graciously allow me to conduct and organize this event for the children’s parade.  We will still going to have it at the old football field Evers Field.”

Mathis is asking all the children to arrive at ten am.  Judging will be at 10:30.  The parade around Evers Field will follow at eleven.

Mathis says several anonymous donors will provide the prize money that is handed out to children wearing the best costumes in each division.

Mathis notes you do come at your own risk and are asked to follow CDC guidelines by wearing a mask and social distance.    He says he is taking responsibility for safety as well as making sure the kids have a wonderful fun time.
