Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon has identified an elderly man who was the subject of an extensive manhunt on Monday as 79-year-old James R. Jones of Simmons Road in rural Kinmundy.

Jones was found dead in a shallow creek off a gravel road northwest of Kinmundy a short distance from where his truck was found.  Cannon says Jones appears to have become disoriented.   He succumbed to exposure and hypothermia when he was unable to make his way out of the creek.

Volunteers from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Kinmundy-Alma Fire Department and neighborhood volunteers organized a search for Jones after his neighbor found his truck along the gravel road Monday morning.    Jones may have been missing for several days.

The McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home is assisting the Jones family with arrangements.
