Kaskaskia College Getting Set To Tip Off Basketball Season Wednesday

In spite of the lack of athletics at the high school and junior high level since the Fall, Kaskaskia College President George Evans says they are prepared to move forward with basketball and the rest of the sports with proper mitigations and precautions taken.

“As of right now we still plan on competing as well as we can continue to follow the IDPH guidelines.  We do plan on competing in all sports available however there will be some strict mitigation measures involved including limiting the capacity of the gym to very few individuals outside of our athletes.  Constant mitigation efforts and screening also included.”

Talking with WJBD/WSIQ, Evans says in addition they will have to be mindful of their scheduling as well as isolating athletes to their teams so they aren’t intermingling with each other so if one person does test positive it would hopefully be limited to that team and not spread through all of them.

“Obviously the NCAA has been playing for quite some time so we are gearing up hopefully to get these student-athletes some playing time as well.  But we are going to do so in a safe matter.  I want to reiterate that.  Our standards will continue to be very high and our mitigation efforts we will never put our students in harms way.”

Evans says that for home basketball games at this point they are limited to 50 people total outside the student athletes.

“We will still require anyone who comes in is going to have to complete the screening and if there is issues there are expectations that they would abide by the rules.  If for some reason you have an issue that prevents you from going to the main campus, that will prevent you from going to games as well.”

The Kaskaskia College women are set to tip off tomorrow night at Lincoln Land College starting at 5pm while the men open up their season at home against Missouri Baptist at 7pm.
