Both Salem Grade and High School Districts to begin having in-person classes on Wednesdays

Both Salem Grade and High School are changing their hybrid remote plans this week, with students to begin attending classes on Wednesday instead of having a full remote day.

All Salem Grade School students will be in attendance while Salem High School will remain with half the students each day of the week, with each group alternating attending in person or being remote on Wednesdays.

Salem Grade School Superintendent Dr. Leslie Foppe says their hope is the additional day will help students academically and is a first step towards returning to the normal schedule. She also hopes this will help parents that struggle with child care. However, Foppe warns the situation remains fluid depending on positive COVID-19 cases.

Salem High School Superintendent Dr. Brad Detering says the school’s transition team saw an upside in students being in attendance an additional day every other week. He reports the district is starting the second semester with about 150 fully remote learners, although some students are coming back while others are going to full remote.
