Play Ball! IDPH Paves Way For High School Sports To Resume

All sports including football and basketball are now allowed in all regions that are currently in Phase Four, which includes the Southern, East Central and West Central Illinois regions that include Marion, Jefferson, Wayne, Clay, Fayette and Effingham Counties.

On the heels of that announcement from State Public Health Director Dr Ngozi Ezike, the SIJHSAA released information and guidelines to junior high schools on how to proceed.  More guidance is expected when the IHSA meets on Wednesday to discuss a timeline for the rest of the 2020-21 school year sports.

Some items being considered will be Volleyball and Boys Basketball would start games on February 1st with girls’ basketball to follow volleyball.  Volleyball and basketball will hone regionals only with bowling to be determined.  The SIJHSAA anticipates the low risk sports of Golf and Track will take place as normal.  They will also be getting more information on if cheerleaders will be allowed at basketball games for junior high.
