Kaskaskia College President George Evans wants to correct some slippage in student satisfaction scores which he says appears to be the result of COVID- 19. However, overall students appear extremely happy.

Academic Center for Excellence Director Laura Vahlkamp presented the annual report. Nearly 97-percent of the 410 students who responded said they would recommend Kaskaskia College to others. Nearly 95-percent said they feel safe on campus. Nearly 87-percent rated their overall KC experience as Excellent or Good.

Evans says with the report card they will now go to work.

“Three to four percentage drop to our ACE and student center.  Primarily if you put that into context a large amount of our students weren’t on campus at that time as a majority of them went to a remote setting in March.  So we did see a large amount of increase in the N/A or not applicable portion but we do want to make sure that we do continue to provide those services to our students moving forward.  That will be a point of focus for us next year.”

Evans says their goal is to have all categories at 95-percent or higher. The survey also indicated not all students at the extension centers realized all of the college’s services were still available to them even though they weren’t on the main campus.

In other action, the board approved the college’s Department of Public Safety’s Emergency Operations Plan. It outlines the main campus and education centers’ plans for emergencies, mass casualty incidents and evacuations. Faculty and staff will have to complete training on procedures in the event of an active shooter on campus.

In personnel news, the board approved a new full-time Retention and Online Student Success Coordinator position to lead the college in improving retention for all students regardless of how they are learning. The board accepted the resignations of Financial Aid Specialist Monecia Boozer and
Purchasing Coordinator Rebecca Gossett.
