Three COVID-19 deaths reported in South Central Illinois, 72 new Marion County Cases

The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting 81 additional COVID-19 related deaths on Wednesday, including three in South Central Illinois.   Two males in their 70s from Jefferson County and one male in his 60s from Wayne County are on the list of fatalities.

The state is reporting a total of 3,751 new cases of the disease.

The Marion County Health Department is reporting 72 new cases over the past two days.  They include no long term care residents and five students.  However, only one was in class during their infectious period.    The department is classifying 46 of the cases as community spread and 26 who are household or close contacts.

There are now 457 active cases, including 23 who are hospitalized and two on ventilators.   There were no additional recoveries on Tuesday or Wednesday, with a total of 3,354 reported as recovered since the pandemic began.

There were 20 new positive cases reported in Clinton County.  There are currently 274 on home confinement and two who are hospitalized.

The Jefferson County Health Department is reporting 50 new cases including 30 from the Big Muddy Correctional Center.   175 are currently in isolation.

The Washington County Health Department is reporting 13 new lab-confirmed cases on Tuesday and Wednesday.  There are now 42 active cases and one who is hospitalized.

The Fayette County Health Department reports ten new cases.

The Wayne County Health Department is reporting two new lab-confirmed cases.  44 are currently in isolation and two are hospitalized.

The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting a positivity rate for the past seven days of 4.5-percent.   While the Metro-East Region positivity rate continues to fall and is now at 7.5-percent for the past seven days, the Region has now fallen under the 20-percent threshold for available ICU beds for the third day in a row and is now at just 18-percent.  As a result, the region remains the only one in the state still at Tier 2 mitigations which severely limits activities.

The Southern Illinois positivity rate remains at 5-percent.   Marion County’s positivity remains at 3.8-percent.

The East Central Illinois Region is at 5.1-percent.
