The Salem Wildcats dropped a tough game on Saturday to visiting Mt Carmel 62-58.
The Cats led the entire way, but the Aces got hot from the three point line in the fourth quarter hitting 5 in the quarter and 9 in the game. Haddon Lybarger finished leading the Cats with 16. Caden Bee added 13 as the Cats hit 7 three’s in the game, but only 2 in the second half.
Beau Stipp scored 15 of his game high 26 in the fourth quarter. 6-8 big man Kaleb Applebey added 17 and Gage Kennard hit 3 threes in the final quarter to end with 12.
Salem is 1-4 on the year and will take their 1-2 Cahokia record on the road to Breese Central on Tuesday, host Freeburg on Thursday and Columbia on Saturday.
Mt Carmel then traveled to Woodlawn on Saturday afternoon and beat them 54-29.
In other action, Centralia dropped their first game of the season with a 27-26 loss to Carterville. The Orphans led 17-10 at halftime but were held to just 9 points in the second half.
