Vivian Marcella Alvis, age 63, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 7:25 A.M. on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at her home in Centralia, Illinois. Ms. Alvis was of the Baptist faith. She took a liking to animals and would adopt the local stray cats. She loved to go shopping and traveling to Branson, Missouri. Earlier in her life, she enjoyed being in the outdoors, camping with her family. Vivian was known to help other people more than herself. She would take any opportunity to care for others. She cherished the time she spent with her family and loved her grandchildren. Ms. Alvis retired as an inspector in 1999 after 26 years of service to Rockwell International/Cambridge Industries/Meridian Automotive Systems in Centralia, Illinois. She lived most of her life in Centralia, Illinois.

Celebration of Life Services for Ms. Vivian Marcella Alvis will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois with Pastor Brian High officiating. Family and friends are invited to join with Ms. Alvis’ family via Live Stream at www.moranfuneralhome.net on her obituary page at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 2, 2021. Interment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Centralia, Illinois. Friends may pay their respects to Ms. Alvis, sign the guest book or make a memorial contribution from 11:00 A.M. until the time of her services on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois. The family asks those who are attending to please be mindful of social distancing, wear a mask, and take any health precautions necessary to ensure a healthy environment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ms. Alvis’ honor to the Centralia Humane Society in Centralia, Illinois, and will be received by the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home at 134 South Elm Street in Centralia, Illinois. Ms. Alvis is survived by her son, Douglas Dodson and girlfriend Erica Miller of Centralia, Illinois; grandchildren, Adalyn Kaminski, Alexis Gross, Peyton Marcum and Graedon Dodson; half-sister, LaVetta Ann Hendershott of Zalma, Missouri; brother, Galen Thurston and wife Judy of Beckemeyer, Illinois; sister, Marsha Hinson of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; brother, Wesley Thurston and significant other Sandy Davis of Walnut Hill, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews.

She was born on July 13, 1957, the daughter of Denver H. and Willia “Clara” (Wallace) Thurston. She married Raymond Dodson in 1975 in Benton, Illinois, and they later divorced. She married Larry Alvis in 1989 at Greenview Christian Church in Centralia, Illinois, and they later divorced. She and Kenneth “Kenny” Moore were together for many years until his passing on September 10, 2008. Ms. Alvis was preceded in death by her parents, Denver H. Thurston and Willia “Clara” Thurston.
