Salem City Council approves price for selling residential lot

The Salem City Council has approved the $2,500 offered by a Kinmundy woman to purchase one of the lots developed from the land where the Salem Armory used to stand.

However, the sale to Patricia Blair is contingent on the city council giving the approval to locate a doublewide modular home on the property in the 500 block of West Warmoth.   A public hearing before the Salem Planning Commission is the next step.

City Manager Rex Barbee says while the price for the land is low, it will result in a new home that will add to the city’s tax base.

In other action, the council approved the purchase of six flushing stations to be placed at the end of the existing water lines to allow for more economical sampling of water for IEPA requirements.  The $14,846  cost is budgeted.

A contract with Metro-Ag, Incorporated of Breese was extended for two more years.  The company disposes of the sludge removed from the city’s sewage treatment plant.

The council has agreed to sell at 2014 Vermeer trencher as surplus property.  It is no longer needed in the gas department.
