Three COVID-19 deaths reported in South Central Illinois

The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting three additional COVID-19 related deaths in South Central Illinois on Tuesday.  They include a male in his 40s in Jefferson County, a male in his 70s in Clay County, and a male in his 70s in Wayne County.   They are among 47 additional deaths being reported statewide.

The Marion County Health Department is reporting no deaths and just five new cases of COVID-19 Saturday through Tuesday.   None of those cases were in long-term care facilities and only one was a student where contact tracing is underway.   The department reports three of the cases are community spread and two are the result of household or close contacts.

There are currently 18 active cases, including eight who are in the hospital.  The health department reports 38 have been released from isolation since Saturday, bringing the total number recovered to 4,072.   The county has had 113 deaths.

The Jefferson County Health Department reported no new cases on Tuesday, with 18 positive cases still on isolation.   Fayette County is also reporting no new cases for the fourth day in a row.  Clay County had no new cases on Monday.

Statewide, there were 1,577 new cases reported on Tuesday.   The seven-day statewide positivity rate has dropped to 2.4-percent.    The seven-day positivity rate in Marion County is just six-tenths of a percent.

Another 61,061 doses of vaccine were administered statewide on Monday, bringing the statewide total to over 2.8-million.
