COVID-19 Thursday update: 1,740 new cases and 42 additional deaths

The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting 1,740 new COVID-19 cases and 42 additional deaths on Thursday. None of the deaths were in South Central Illinois.

The Marion County Health Department did not issue a report for Thursday as the department was completing 200-second shots of the COVID-19 vaccine at the First Christian Church in Salem.

Clinton County reported only one new case on Thursday, with 33 on home isolation and two hospitalized. Jefferson County reported three new cases, with 15 currently in isolation.

The statewide seven-day positivity rate is 2.4-percent. Marion County’s positivity rate has fallen to four-tenths of a percent. Just under 3-million COVID-19 vaccines have now been administered statewide. IDPH reports 7,054 vaccines have been given to Marion County residents. 2,275 are now fully vaccinated, which is just over six percent of the total population.
