Kell Fire Department prepares for purchase of new pumper-tanker

Kell Fire Chief Lonnie McDaneld says it was a happy day Wednesday as voters in the Kell Fire Protection District approved a $600,000 bond issue to allow for purchase of a new pumper tanker truck.

McDaneld says the district was in a bind as the current 40-year-old pumper-tanker would no longer meet guidelines and current district funds would not even purchase a newer used truck.

The new truck to be paid through the bond issue will be able to pump water 50-percent faster and will hold 2,000 gallons of water, four times the capacity of the truck it is replacing.

McDaneld says it will take about a year for Rosenbauer to build and deliver the truck. With voter approval, work is now underway to finalize the issuing of the bonds that will be paid off through property taxes.

The bond issue was approved by Kell Fire Protection District residents during Tuesday’s election by a vote of 138 to 41.
