2021 04/11 – Gary L. Benjamin

Gary L. Benjamin, 54, of Centralia passed away Monday, April 5th, 2021 at SSM Health St Mary’s in Centralia. Gary worked as a loyal employee at Warren G. Murray Center for many years. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and wild storyteller. He enjoyed being outdoors, specifically camping and fishing. In leisure time, it was rare for him to miss wrestling on television. Gary had a contagious laugh and overwhelming amount of love that could not be missed by anyone.

Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia is privileged to be assisting the family with arrangements. A celebration of life will be held privately by the family. Memorials may be made in Gary’s honor to the family’s wishes and will be accepted for the family at the funeral home. Other survivors that hold precious memories include beloved family; sister Malissa Benjamin, aunts Debra Nichols and husband John and Ople Schmitz of Centralia, uncle David Groff and wife Janice of Bourbonnais, nephew Joshua Benjamin and niece Makylie Benjamin of Centralia.

He was born on May 29th, 1966 to Gary and Lettle Benjamin who both proceeded him in death. He married Debra (Flanagan) Benjamin of Centralia and they later divorced. In addition, Gary formed a remarkably close relationship with Debra’s daughter, Makyla (Flanagan) Hargrave of Terre Haute, Indiana, whom he considered to be his own child.
