A 33-year-old Salem man is being held in the Marion County Jail on multiple charges following an investigation on Saturday by Salem Police into a stolen vehicle allegedly found parked in front of his home.
Steven Schultz of East Locust was eventually arrested following a traffic stop that occurred near his home when police noticed an expired registration.
Schultz was arrested for alleged possession of under five grams of methamphetamine, driving on a revoked license, having an expired registration as well as unauthorized control over stolen property. He was also wanted on a Coles County felony failure to appear warrant on a pending felony retail theft charge. The bond on the warrant is set at $5,000.
Salem Police say the series of events began when they received a report from a Salem woman that her car had been stolen from in front of the Continental Motel. It was later found in front of Schultz’s home.
Schultz was stopped by police in a different vehicle as he neared his home at South Walnut and Locust. The meth was allegedly found inside the vehicle.
The traffic stop occurred at 10:37 Sunday night.
