Marion County Health Department reports 24 new COVID-19 cases

The Marion County Health Department reports 24 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend and Monday.   None of the cases are long-term care residents.  Two are students, but neither were in school during their infectious periods.   The health department is considering 21 of the cases as community spread and three as spread from household or close contacts.  There are now 33 active cases.   Three of those are in the hospital and 30 are in home isolation.

Statewide, 2,433 new cases were reported along with 18 additional deaths.  All but two of the deaths were in Cook County and none were in South Central or Southern Illinois.

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity rate for the past week increased to 4.4-percent.    Department of Public Health statistics shows most of the increase has been in the northern third of Illinois, with some of that area now with less than 20-percent capacity in hospital intensive care units.   A total of 1,998 are now hospitalized statewide.  418 were in intensive care units and 177 on ventilators.

An additional 64,772 cases of COVID-19 vaccine were administered on Sunday, bringing the total to more than 7.2-million.

Clinton County is reporting five new cases over the weekend and Monday.  There are currently 13 on home isolation and one who is hospitalized.

The Jefferson County Health Department is reporting three new cases over the past three days with 14 currently in isolation.

The Washington County Health Department is reporting one new case over the past three days with three currently in isolation.

The Wayne County Health Department reported no new cases over the weekend.
