2021 04/17 – Norma Coil

Norma Coil, formerly of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away on April 13, 2021 at The Pavilion Nursing Home in Lebanon, Tennessee. Norma worked as a telephone operator at Illinois Bell until she retired in 1963 so her and Don could start a family. Norma was a board member for the Christian Women’s Club in Washington, Illinois and held several different positions at the Jefferson County Home Extension in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She attended First Freewill Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. Norma loved her church and singing in the choir. She also enjoyed painting, flower arranging, playing the piano, puzzles, and sewing.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, April 17, 2021 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at First Freewill Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. The Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Reverend David Shores officiating. Interment will follow at New Home (Lowery) Cemetery in Bluford, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Freewill Baptist Church of Mount Vernon or New Home (Lowery) Cemetery. Please remember to observe social distancing at this time. Norma and Donald were blessed with three children: Kevin, Angela, and Brian. Norma is survived by her husband, Donald; daughter, Angela Serrett of Mount Juliet, Tennessee; son, Brian Coil and daughter-in-law, Tonya of Spring Hill, Tennessee; grandchildren, David Serrett of Carbondale, Illinois, Noah Coil of Everett, Massachusetts, Caleb Coil of Calhoun, Georgia, and Hannah Coil of Spring Hill, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

Norma was born October 17, 1931 in Franklin County, Illinois to the late Mattie (Ezell) and Ernest Bumpus. Norma married Donald Coil on September 1, 1956 and were blessed with over 64 years of marriage at the time of her passing. In addition to her parents, Norma was also preceded in death by her son, Kevin Coil; grandson, Zachery Serrett; brothers, Paul Bumpus, Lloyd Bumpus, Lester Bumpus, and Elmer Bumpus; and sister, Ivadene Hudson.
