Salem man charged with Class X drug offense

A 25-year-old Salem man had bond set at $100,000 after being charged in Marion County Court with a Class X felony drug offense.

John Phillips of Lynnwood Drive is charged with unlawful possession with intent to deliver 15 to 100 grams of cocaine. In addition to the Class X charge, Phillips was also charged with possession of under five grams of methamphetamine as well as possession of a controlled substance.

Phillips was arrested by Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies in a Wednesday night traffic stop.

He was driving a car belonging to 20-year-old Katlin Hollinshead of East 5th in Kinmundy who had been arrested a short time earlier outside the Marion County Law Enforcement Center. She was formally charged in court with unlawful possession of a controlled substance for allegedly having a narcotic pill.

Hollinshead’s bond was set at $2,100. The public defender was appointed to represent her.

A third person also faces a new felony drug charge. 54-year-old James Shadowens of Stewart Street in Mt. Vernon was formally charged with possession of under five grams of methamphetamine as well as misdemeanor resisting a peace officer. He was arrested early Thursday morning by State Police following a traffic stop near Kinmundy. Bond for Shadowens was set at $5,400. The public defender was appointed to represent him.
