Freeburg’s Ground Attack Stifles Wildcats In Road Finale

Freeburg quarterback Griffin Range combined with running back Lucas Stone to rush for 300 yards on the ground as Freeburg pulled away in the 2nd half to beat Salem 41-15.

The Cats trailed 19-7 at the halftime break.  Salem turned it over 5 times, including 3 fumbles, as Freeburg took advantage of those mistakes.

Range finished 7-of-14 through the air for 116 yards with a touchdown and interception.  He also rushed 20 times for 138 yards and another score.  Stone rushed 22 times for 162 yards and 3 scores.

Salem’s Shawn Bailey came away with a fumble recovery and Caden Bee had an interception.  Keytin Mitchell rushed 14 times for 17 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Quarterback Quentin Purcell was 12-of-24 for 237 yards and 2 picks.

Freeburg improves to 4-1 while Salem is 2-3 and will be back home in their season finale next week hosting East Alton Wood River for Senior Night at Jim Finks Field.
