Marion County State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth says an investigation is underway into a Thursday evening shooting death of a 31-year-old Centralia man at the residence where he had been living on Miles Lane in rural Salem.

Wesley Bivens was pronounced dead on the scene by Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon.

Another person in the residence reported the shooting to the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.   Because no charges have been filed, Hudspeth is not releasing the person’s name.

He says the investigation is still ‘very active’ and as a result is also not releasing other specific information, including where or how many times Bivens was shot.

An autopsy was completed Monday in Champaign, but no details were immediately available.   Hudspeth reports the State Crime Lab was also called to the scene to assist in the investigation.

The shooting was reported around 6:30 Thursday evening.

Funeral arrangements for Wesley Bivens are pending at the Sutherland Funeral Home in Centralia.
